Construction on medical research facility begins next week
BAM Construction has been awarded a 拢20m contract to build a science led facility for Cardiff University.
At about 10,000m2, the Haydn Ellis 黑洞社区 will house lecture theatres, clinics, laboratory spaces and office accommodation. Ranging between three and five storeys, the building will also feature a large atrium, zinc cladding and a concrete cantilevered staircase.
BAM beat off competition from a strong shortlist of bidders which included Willmott Dixon, Laing O鈥橰ourke, Sir Robert McAlpine, Vinci, Interserve, Morgan Sindall and Cowlins.
The development is the first time BAM and Cardiff University have worked together.
Justin Price, who has been appointed as BAM鈥檚 project manager, said: 鈥淲e are very keen indeed to show Cardiff University what we can do and to develop a strong relationship.
鈥淚n very competitive market conditions we鈥檝e secured this prestigious development of a highly sophisticated building which will look really impressive. We鈥檙e excited about our new partnership and working with the University and its community.鈥
The Cardiff University development breaks ground on 19 May.
