Dutch consultant turnover 拢338m mainly due to recent acquisitions including two US firms

Turnover at Dutch consultant Arcadis has jumped by a fifth in the second quarter of 2008.

The figure rose from 拢276m (鈧348m) to 拢338m (鈧427m) thanks largely to its recent acquisitions.

Chief executive of Arcadis Harrie Noy

Last July the firm bought US planning and architecture consultant RTKL, which was followed by US environmental consultant LFR this January.

Earnings before interest, tax and amortisation climbed 24% from 鈧23.8m (拢18.9m) to 鈧29.5m (拢23.4m).

Harrie Noy, chief executive, said: 鈥淥ur focus on markets with growth potential, strong client focussed approach and internal cooperation aimed at synergies, forms the basis for these good results.鈥

Organic growth was 8% and was largely due to the expansion of the energy and mining markets in Brazil and Chile.

But Hoy warned that the commercial property markets in the UK and the US had slowed due to the credit crunch.

He said: 鈥淭he economic uncertainty demands caution. That is why we have given high priority to cost controls and intensified sales efforts in attractive areas.鈥
