Consultant appointed to clerk of works role on Liverpool scheme

The NHS trust in charge of finishing the Liverpool hospital left half-built by bust firm Carillion has drafted in Aecom to make sure work to complete the job is up to scratch.

Aecom has been chosen as clerk of works on the Royal Liverpool hospital by the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

In papers published ahead of this week鈥檚 trust board meeting Peter Williams, chief executive at the trust, said: 鈥淲e are taking great care to ensure that there is appropriate scrutiny and governance of this project which the trust is now responsible for.

鈥淲e have strengthened our team and have appointed a clerk of works; this is no longer an individual but a team of experts from architectural and engineering consultancies.鈥

Laing O鈥橰ourke has been asked to complete the botched scheme which was left with a host of problems to fix after Carillion鈥檚 implosion last year.

These have included cladding and structural issues while Laing O鈥橰ourke said it would need to modify the ventilation system in the anaesthetic rooms in theatres.

The trust added it also had to shell out 拢3m on essential maintenance costs to make sure the water system to provide power and heating does not degrade to the extent that it needed to be ripped out.
