Flagship 拢650m office building to be designed to the highest sustainability standards
Architect Allford Hall Monaghan Morris has unveiled its design for its 拢650m Google鈥檚 Kings Cross headquarters.
The 1 million ft2 building is the centre piece of the 67 acre King鈥檚 Cross development and features 725,000 ft2 of office space and 50,000 ft2 of retail space at ground level.
The plans submitted to Camden council are for a building that is between seven storeys high at its lowest point and eleven storeys high at the highest point.
A steel frame and cross laminated timber will be used for the internal structure of the building, which Google said was a first for a building of its size, to make it more sustainable. The firm is hoping to achieve both BREEAM Outstanding and LEED Platinum sustainability certifications.
The external design will include steel columns, pre-cast concrete panels and low-iron glass and painted steelwork.
In March, 黑洞社区 revealed beating Carillion, Skanska, and Balfour Beatty to the job.
Simon Allford, director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), said: 鈥淭his building is underpinned by cutting edge design intelligence and technologies to provide a sophisticated twenty first century working environment for Google鈥檚 staff.
鈥淭he architectural approach, which has taken inspiration from King鈥檚 Cross and St Pancras International railway stations, complements the local area鈥檚 strong industrial heritage and will be a building London can be proud of.鈥
The project, which is being built by contractor Bam Construct, is expected to generate 1,500 construction jobs.
Work on the site is due to start in early 2014 and complete in 2017.
Davis Langdon is acting as consultant on the project, which is being developed by Argent.
