More than 350 wind turbines are to be installed in the desert around Lake Turkana in Kenya by a consortium of Kenyan and Dutch companies

Each turbine has a capacity of 850kw, and the Lake Turkana Wind Power consortium claims the wind farm will provide as much as 30% of Kenya’s current total installed power. The project is being backed by the African Development Bank. Production is expected to start in June 2011 and reach full capacity of 300MW by July 2012.
