Construction sites remain open if they can comply with guidelines, the problem is no one seems to be checking rules are being followed - the wife of one worker speaks out
When I saw the public outcry over hundreds people allowed to congregate on Westminster Bridge to clap for the frontline workers last week, I thought 鈥淚f only people knew hundreds congregate every day while working on construction sites鈥. My husband went back on site earlier this month, and from what he is seeing contractors have implemented systems but many are not practical or are being ignored, with no one to oversee that social distancing is being followed.
Government guidelines have used loose language so contractors are getting away with saying advice 鈥渟hould鈥 be followed 鈥渨herever possible鈥. On my husband鈥檚 site, changing rooms still have workers getting changed next to one another. To get on and off site you must cross a walkway less than 2m wide. This leads into corridors taking you further into site. Workers constantly pass one another.
